Laura Shumar is a historian, a fiber artist, a historical re-enactor, and a former Roller Derby skater. She has a B.A. and an M.A. in history from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She teaches the big history surveys – U.S., European, and World, and has also taught Sport History and was a last-minute substitute instructor for a Study Abroad class in Turkey. She had internships at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and at the Indiana Historical Society. She loves historical fiction, but thinks finding out the true story is what makes history fun. Someday, she wants to teach a class on Modern European History as illustrated by The Sound of Music.
